From what we heard last, the BMW Motorrad division was said to be working with TVS Motors to bring its range of motorcycles to India. While we have only heard about the G 310R, BMW showcased some of its products including the G 310R at last year’s Auto Expo in India.
Today we have confirmation that the BMW Motorrad has officially landed in India. It will be based out of Gurgaon as part of BMW’s India subsidiary, BMW Group. Initially all BMW Motorrad products will be completely built units (CBU) including the BMW R 1200 GS and the BMW S 1000 RR. The R 1200 R, RS and RT boxer, the K 1600 GTL inline six-cylinder tourer, the BMW R Nine T and R Nine T Scrambler and the BMW S 1000 XR adventure tourer will also be available.
As for the pricing, the most basic will be the R 1200 R priced at Rs 14.90 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) going all the way up to Rs 28.5 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) for the K 1600 GTL. The R 1200 GS and Adventure models will be priced between Rs 15.90 and Rs 21.40 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) and the S 1000 RR will come in two variants priced at at Rs 18.90 and Rs 21.40 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The prices are said to be lower than what it used to be when Motorrad products were imported by representatives in Mumbai and New Delhi.
Shivaprasad Ray who worked with DSK-Benelli and Hyosung will now head the BMW Motorrad in India. Vikram Pawah, President BMW group India and former head of Harley-Davidson India should also have a prominent role. The initiate the dealership network, BMW Motorrad showrooms are expected to open in Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Bangalore and Pune and expand to more cities in the future.
