It’s here at last, the trailer for Call of Duty: WWII. The Call of Duty franchise has been alive and kicking since 2003, an eternity in gaming years. In that time, the franchise has run the gamut of wars and even ventured into the future. It’s now come full circle.

The Call of Duty (CoD) franchise started life as a World War II based first-person shooter (FPS), with Dawnville and United Offensive being the first titles. Since then, the subsequent games have quite comprehensively covered the different theatres of World War II, including the Japanese front, which few games do justice to.

In fact, of the 15+ games released since 2003, over 30 percent have been World War II based games. The last time we saw a World War II game from Activision, the game’s publisher, however, was 2008.

The franchise tried to move onto newer and newer eras of war, covering Vietnam in the first Black Ops, robots in subsequent titles and other such experiments.

Still, it must be admitted that the games have been getting formulaic off-late.

Hopefully, World War II changes all this, and in fact, builds on the reignited interest in the era since EA’s World War I based Battlefield 1 game arrived last year.

Anyway, here’s the new CoD game’s trailer. Make of it what you will, but I will admit, I’m excited for a change, if only for the spectacle that the trailer promises.
