I'm a little sad. The sixth season of the Indian Premier League's Twenty20 cricket championship is making sure Sony gets all the TRP in the world, and cricket is what anybody and everybody can talk about. But not all of us have a TV around all the time to keep up with all the exciting stuff. In fact, I was so busy, I missed Chris Gayle's epic 175-run record! It was only when I was “looking for stories” on Facebook that I found out about Gayle's badassery. Woe is me.
However, I have resolved to keep up with IPL. I've dug up a few apps and services that'll let me stay updated with cricket on my mobile phone, or at least stay in touch with the sport in some form. Some of these let me stream matches online and update my phone with the juiciest of news related to cricket, while others are games that remind me of my true passions in life. They're damn useful and I'm sure most of you will appreciate these.
Official Pepsi IPL 2013
First off, there's the official Indian Premier League app to keep you abreast with all the latest happenings. The app is available at no cost for both Android and iOS on their respective app stores. The app shows all the live action and news, along with live scorecards and video timelines of all matches. You can look out for detailed tournament schedules, player information, and photo galleries of what has happened so far. The app also brings to you post-match video clips of fours, sixes, wickets, man-of-the-match moments, funny stuff and more. It's pretty great and the UI is easy to navigate and squeezes the immense variety of information into neat, ordered menus.

IPL – Pulse Innovation
IPL- Pulse Innovation is the Board of Control for Cricket in India's (BCCI) official app. It looks simple and brings live scores, in-depth analysis, latest news, stats and exclusive interviews to your mobile phone. It also provides match commentary and videos. You can access information about new and old players as well as teams on this app. It also has features like virtual replay and pulse polls. This app is available free of cost for Android and iOS.
IPL Cricket Fever 2013
If you're not skilled enough to play the game on the ground, nothing can stop you from becoming a champion on your mobile device. Indiagames recently released a multiplayer IPL cricket game for Android and iOS that lets you challenge your friends to a match. IPL Cricket Fever 2013 is available for free and sports 3D graphics. The game includes daily IPL team bonuses, cheerleaders that dance when you play well and several power-ups. The game has the nine official teams and power-ups from the in-game store. It does a decent job of simulating cricket. The developer says it uses “new real-time physics and motion capture animations to immerse players into the game”. You can even track your progress in the game via a Player Profile Card.
Stick Cricket Premier League
The creators of the famous Stick Cricket have also introduced the Stick Cricket Premier League for iOS and Android. The game lets you create your character, customise him and build your own team by buying or selling players. There are 36 players available, but they include both skilled and unskilled players. Players get five seasons to establish their teams and the game also lets you hire coaches. You get cash bonuses for every six your players hit, and your players also get an appearance fee. As in IPL Cricket Fever 2013, there are nine teams, but instead of twenty overs, you get innings that are only two overs each. The basic features include the Stick Cricket Academy, World Domination levels 1-3, two-player against opponents (via Wi-Fi and Bluetooth), game center support and detailed statistics. The iOS version gets the Premier League as a part of the Stick Cricket app, while there's a separate app for Android.

Cricbuzz – Cricket Scores and News
This app (Android and iOS) is quite useful for bringing quick updates to your phone. However, one of its biggest features is it delivers audio commentaries in English and Hindi. It delivers score updates, ball-by-ball text commentary, match alerts via push notifications, and news updates. You can check out schedules for upcoming games, team and player profiles, stats of the games and team rankings. There is also news about other tournaments, ODIs and more. You can share the scores and updates via SMS, email or Facebook and Twitter.
Which one of these apps do you find handy?
