There are a few games out there that don’t immediately grab your interest, reeling you in slowly as they near release date. RAGE is one such game for me and if you take a seat, I’ll list out five reasons I’m looking forward to this new post-apocalyptic shooter from id Software.
It marks the return of id Software
id's Tech5 engine in all its glory
id may have been in hibernation since Doom III but that doesn’t mean they’ve lost their touch. If there’s one thing you can bet on is that their games look phenomenal and in that respect, RAGE delivers. The PC version is nearly 22 GB in size crammed full of high resolution textures all set to deliver a visually extravagant experience straight to your brain. And let’s say you don’t have a money plant outside your house to build a super PC, id have managed to squeeze every last drop from consoles as well to deliver a game that could give other shooters a run for their money.
Vehicular combat looks sweet
Most first person shooters tend to be a linear fare but with RAGE, id have managed to inject quite a bit of vehicular action into the mix. You see the game world is a post-apocalyptic wasteland so you can’t exactly go for a stroll in the park. You can however use your trusty buggy to get to your destination and thanks to all the firepower at your disposal, you can effectively and brutally display your road rage to anyone who crosses your path. Vehicular combat even ties into the game’s multiplayer mode where you can take on up to six opponents in a race and win by any means necessary.
Gunplay looks solid and satisfying
From the gameplay trailers I’ve seen so far, RAGE looks like it packs in a humungous arsenal of satisfying weapons. If you feel your weapon isn’t devastating enough, you can scour the wasteland in search of upgrades and schematics that allow you to upgrade your tools of destruction. While wielding a one handed weapon, you’ll be able to use your bladed boomerang called a Wingstick that can firmly stack the odds up in your favour while you take on waves of mutants. And hey, if all else fails, just deploy your mini turret and watch it shred your opponents to ribbons.
Who doesn't love exploring a post-apocalytpic wasteland?
There’s something about roaming around a post apocalyptic world that is oddly soothing. Maybe it’s because I enjoy my solitude or maybe I feel free since I’m not governed by the rules of society but either way, I’m totally stoked about exploring the scorched game world. Making matters even sweeter are the quasi Role Playing (RPG) Elements included in the game that will help players to beef up their arsenal or upgrade their abilities to handle the monstrosities roaming around. And best of all, you’ll never have to deal with an annoying inventory system as id themselves have confirmed that there’s no limit on the amount of loot you can carry.
It has co-op
Everything's better in co-op
What’s better than exploring the wasteland in your buggy, driving over or shooting anyone standing in your way? Doing that with a friend in one of the game’s multiplayer modes titled Legends of the Wasteland. Unfortunately the game’s co-operative element does not extend to the story mode itself limiting players to nearly eight standalone missions that serve as a prequel to the campaign. As opposed to the open world approach taken by the story mode, Legend of the Wasteland will go in for a more structured approach assaulting the cooperative players with a set amount of objectives per mission.
Unfortunately for all you PC gamers out there, the PC version of RAGE will not be releasing in India officially. However you can grab both the Xbox360 and PS3 versions when the game hits stands next Friday for Rs. 2999. In the meantime if you’re hell bent on experiencing this game on the PC, you’ll have to shell out the same amount to order it from Steam.
