Phablet fans have been looking forward to Samsung's next offering in its Galaxy Note line-up for quite some time now. According to SamMobile, the company will be unveiling the next handset in the line-up, dubbed the Galaxy Note 3, in the second half of 2013. It will sport a giant 6-inch display, thus further blurring the line between smartphones and tablets, and will use a Super AMOLED panel just like Samsung's other high-end devices.
It was earlier rumoured that the company would be going for a radical design change for the Note 3 by using a flexible display, but it looks like Samsung may have scrapped this idea to go for a more traditional design, which will very likely be inspired by the Galaxy S4.
Expect a bigger version of this
We had talked about the different prototypes that Samsung would be using for its upcoming phablet earlier this month. One of the prototypes is said to use the same design as that of the Galaxy S4, while the second one is said to use a completely different design and the third one is said to have a design with a flexible display. The third design isn't likely to make it, however, since Samsung is facing problems with flexible displays.
It is very likely that Samsung will end up going with the first prototype – this would go with the company's history. The first Note used the same design as the S2 and the Note 2 used the same design as the S3. If it does feature a new design, one of the possible routes for Samsung is a unibody design, like the HTC One.
Recently, it was revealed that the next generation Galaxy Note will have a 13 megapixel camera, an Exynos 5 Octa CPU and 3GB of RAM. But the big news here is that the Note 3 will be getting the next iteration of Mali GPU. The Mali 450 GPU will have 8 cores, which will drastically improve the graphics performance. If you recall, Samsung went with a PowerVR SGX544 GPU in the Galaxy S4, so this one will be a first as far as smartphones are concerned.
