Acer is reportedly preparing a Google Android 3.0 Honeycomb tablet powered by an Intel Atom processor based on the Oak Trail architecture. The tablet is expected to launch in July at the latest, and production is apparently already underway.

If the report from Digitimes is to be believed, Acer will only be the first of many to release tablets based on the Intel/Android combination. Lenovo and ASUS are also rumoured to release tablets using the very same combination. Acer is looking to take advantage of the performance benefits offered by the Oak Trail architecture, but will price the device in line with their other tablets, therefore making the device more attractive. That’s not all, the report also says Acer is evaluating the use of the processors with the MeeGo operating system. Hopefully we’ll find out about this soon.
