Amazon has announced that they will be making a free Kindle application for mobile platforms, namely Android and Windows based devices (the app already exists for iOS) This is in anticipation of the flurry of Windows and Android based tablets that will be unveiled at CES 2011 in Las Vegas later this week.
The application will allow users to buy books through the Kindle book store as well as read books on their devices. It can be synced between the various platforms users have like desktop platforms (Mac, Windows, web), smartphones (Blackberries, Windows Phone 7, iPhone, Android), Kindle e-readers, iPod Touch and iPads. Amazon hasn't said when the application will be available but it wants to compete head on with iBooks (that is currently free for iOS based devices).
