Motorola’s Milestone (also known as Droid) has been a good hit among those who wanted a good Android phone with a QWERTY keypad. With so few options in the market, the Milestone was the obvious choice for many.
All of these Milestone users (and other Android phone users) have been patiently waiting for the latest Google’s Android 2.3 updates (Gingerbread) to be made available officially. Very few people know whether or not the Milestone will even get the 2.3 upgrade, because of possible hardware requirement issues. In fact, there isn’t a fixed date when Milestone users will receive the existing Android 2.2 update, in different regions of the world including India.
The good news is that the work on future builds of CyanogenMod featuring Android 2.3 has already begun. CyanogenMod is a popular custom ROM for Android phones. When manufacturers don’t provide the goods, CM6 does. If you’re looking to update your Android phone, remember that you might lose the warranty on it.
A custom ROM running Android 2.2 for the Milestone/Droid has been around for a long time now. There have been few updates over the last couple of weeks. Recently, a developer confirmed via a comment on the site’s message board that they have already started working on an Android 2.3 ROM.
