We all know 3.0 Honeycomb is the tablet-optimized version of Android, but now it seems the next version of Android for smartphones will include a few of Honeycomb’s features. According to Phandroid’s sources, Google have begun work on a Ice Cream Sandwich – which will succeed Gingerbread – and are porting some of Honeycomb’s features over to the Smartphone OS.
Don’t expect the new version to come out soon, however, because Google are trying to space out updates as much as they can to give developers and manufacturers some breathing room. Not that it’s helping, most manufacturers are still struggling to cope with the frequency of updates.
Look for Ice Cream Sandwich to be announced at the Google I/O event in May this year.
