Windows Phone users now have a reason to fire up and start chucking Angry Birds at egg-stealing pigs all over again. Rovio, the developers of the blockbuster Angry Birds, has re-released the game for Windows phones. This re-release has 100 new levels, taking the total number of levels in the game to 400. Rovio has made the download free till May 15th.

It is important to note that you cannot upgrade your existing Angry Birds on your Windows Phones to this new release; this release is a completely separate download. Rovio has mentioned in its blog that downloading this new version will not wipe your old game, including your stars and level progress. Both versions are completely separate. Rovio has also stated that this re-release will make it technically easier to provide support for this game in the future. Let us hope that in the future Rovio doesn’t re-re-release yet another version.

Apart from new levels, the game also has something for users with XBox LIVE accounts; the Windows Phone 8 version will support Xbox LIVE achievements and leaderboards.

Rovio has released versions for both Windows Phone 8 and Windows Phone 7.5. It has also tweaked the game so that it supports devices with just 256MB RAM. Oddly, the Windows Blog has reported that the game can be played on all Windows Phone 8 devices that sport just 256MB RAM. Considering that current entry level Windows Phone 8 handset is the Lumia 520 and it comes with 512MB RAM, we’d guess that it is a typographical error. Earlier Lumia handsets like the Lumia 610 and Lumia 510 have just 256MB RAM and this new Angry Bird release will open up the world of catapulting birds and chuckling pigs to those users as well.
