Rumour bells began ringing fiercely after it was found that entry to AOL’s Indian portal, AOL.in was barred, and attempts to enter the site were leading the users to AOL’s other mobile property, aol.coolage.in.
Although, there hasn’t been a confirmation yet on the plans of AOL to shut down its Indian portal completely, it would, however make for an interesting observation that this move of AOL comes after it laid off 400 of its employees in the Indian unit, and transferred 300 others to its partner units like Mindtree and HP, early this year.
Optimists, on the other hand, believe that AOL plans to get back its Indian portal in a new form. However, there isn’t very strong backing on this possibility.
