Apple has won two crucial energy related patents that may help them shape the future of their devices. As reported by Patently Apple, the first patent deals with a method of assembling integrated circuits such as solar array cells. As it can be seen from the image below, it involves placement of the chips onto the surface using a placement device that includes an arm.
A new method of assembling?
The second patent that Apple has obtained is harnessing sunlight to illuminate a display screen. An apparatus is placed behind the device that allows the sun’s rays to fall on it. It could be either a reflective or a translucent surface that will allow the light to pass right through it and onto the display attached to it. These are just concepts and hence, the representations and drawings could change based on further research.
Powered by the sun
Be it any device, displays currently are the main reason for rapid battery drain and keeping your device’s brightness at maximum drastically reduces its battery life. Solar energy has had quite limited usage in everyday lives, so far. These new patents do seem to be an indication that Apple is trying to harness solar energy to power devices of the future and it’s definitely a step in the right direction.
