The latest in the industry to have got under Apple’s axe is GetJar, the world’s largest free app store, for doing just that – using the word – App Store for itself. The iPad manufacturer has been on an axing spree to get the term ‘App Store’ under its domain. In its latest effort towards achieving that end, Apple’s law firm issued a cease-and-desist letter to GetJar.
Can't Get it..
In the letter issued, Apple has clearly stated that the term App Store refers to its mobile application service, and therefore, GetJar couldn’t use it for its own. In the letter, Apple has even offered GetJar alternate name suggestions to its own service – mobile download service or application download service. CNET reports that GetJar wasn’t expecting a letter of that nature, moreso because it has been in the business before Apple. The spokesperson for GetJar concluded saying that, Apple always behaved that it was above the law, and that Apple’s attempts to ‘bully’ them would go unsuccessful.
