Apple has been producing devices like the iPad and iPhone which support the newest generation of SIM cards – the micro-SIM card. Reports are emerging that Apple has plans to further reduce the size of the SIM card to maybe add more space in their mobile devices.
Apple plans to resize SIM cards
According to Reuters, mobile carrier Orange’s head of mobile services, Anne Bouverot told them that they were quite happy to see last week that Apple had submitted a new requirement to (European telecoms standards body) ETSI for a smaller SIM form factor; one that is even smaller in the iPhone or iPad. She goes on to say that Apple have done this through the standardization route, through ETSI, with the sponsorship of some major mobile operators with Orange being one of them. She went on to say that this process would take some time and that the first devices using these new SIM cards would come out by next year.
According to the news agency, Apple or the ETSI had no immediate response to the shrinking of the SIM card.
