Apple's got another trick up its sleeve. They're trying to patent a smart flash. Most cameras have a flash in a single spot. What Apple's trying to do is make a flash redirector that can whip them around which makes it adjustable for direction and intensity allowing users to frame dimly-lit pictures the way they want it.

The application suggests that the flash would have a lens just for itself and a pivot either on the lens or the flash itself which would allow the flash to be adjusted. The alternative would be being able to adjust the flash from the touchscreen device itself.
