A few months after the release of Assassin’s Creed II, Ubisoft had unveiled Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood with one interesting, albeit weird feature – multiplayer. The Assassin’s Creed series doesn’t seem like the kind of game that would have multiplayer that players are used to, and the first time I started up the multiplayer for Brotherhood, I wasn’t really sure what to expect. Needless to say Ubisoft pulled off great multiplayer for the game and followed it up with more game modes for the multiplayer in Assassin’s Creed: Revelations. Now, the company has released the trailer that shows off the multiplayer gameplay in Assassin’s Creed III.

The trailer starts off as an advertisement where the main Antagonist of the game, a company known as Abstergo that is run by Templars who are trying to take over the world through capitalism, is trying to sell what looks like a machine – a consumer version of the Animus – that would allow people to play “games” set in different eras of time. This looks like a different story set up for the multiplayer, as previous games had Abstergo trying to train its agents to fight Assassins through the “games” inside the Animus.

The multiplayer in the Assassin’s Creed games has always been much different from the classic multiplayer that gamers are used to. Instead of the run-and-gun gameplay of something like Call of Duty or the team and social gameplay of something like World of Warcraft, Assassin’s Creed’s multiplayer has more to do with stealth. The multiplayer, much like the games themselves, has players blending into crowds to try and remain unseen while trying to scope out their targets and quickly moving in for the kill without alerting other players. The new game in the series looks to add new features to the multiplayer.

The trailer shows off a new progression system for the game where players can unlock more things as they level up by playing matches. Another thing the trailer shows off is a new gameplay that looks like it could either be something akin to King of the Hill from games like Team Fortress 2 where a team has to capture a place in the map and keep control of it for a certain amount of time, and a control point game mode where the team that captures all control points in the map wins the game.

The Assassin’s Creed series deals with a secret war that has lasted millennia between the Assassins and the Templars. The Assassins seek to fight for the free will of people, while the Templars seek to control them. The first game was set during the Holy Crusades in Jerusalem. Protagonist Altaïr ibn-La'Ahad would have to jump from rooftops and sneak into groups of people in order to find and assassinate his targets.

The second game was set during the Renaissance era in Florence. The main protagonist of the “II” series of games (which are Assassin’s Creed II, Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, and Assassin’s Creed: Revelations) is Ezio Auditore. The II series of games dealt with the evolution of Ezio as a character, who starts out as a revenge-driven teenager only to become a highly-skilled master of Assassins. Altaïr also makes an appearance in Revelation, showing the aged assassin’s last few days. The secondary protagonist of the series is Desmond Miles, who is accessing his “genetic memory” to live the lives of his Ancestors Altaïr and Ezio.

Assassin's Creed III will be released for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on October 30, and the PC version will be released on November 20.
