We’ve just learnt through our sources that Asus will be officially bringing the Transformer Prime to India, and February 24th is the day on which you’ll be able to snag one off the shelves. The first quad-core tablet will be available through all Asus retail stores in the country and the 64GB version, along with the dock will set you back Rs.49,999. This is the maximum retail price, so the street price would be a little lower.

Transformer Prime is the most wanted Android tablet

It's coming…

So far, we don’t have any pricing details of the other variants of the Prime, just the flagship model (TF201-1B014A). The Transformer Prime will come with Honeycomb at launch, but will be upgradable to Ice Cream Sandwich, soon. The tablet will run Nvidia’s Tegra 3, which is the first quad-core CPU for hand held devices.

On the screen front, it will sport the same 10-inch LED backlit display with a resolution of 1280 x 800. Another major change is the new 8MP snapper on the back, along with flash. While Asus did announce an updated version of the Transformer Prime with a full HD screen, during CES 2012, we won’t be seeing that for a while now. The pricing seems a bit too high for a non-3G tablet and we do hope the actual street price is a lot lower, else it really doesn’t make any sense. Even if the Prime does come with a 3G dongle support, having a SIM card slot is just more convenient, instead of having a dongle sticking out the side. If you were saving up for the Prime then this is what you’re going to have to shell out. Right now, we just know about this one model, but we’ll keep you posted about news on cheaper variants as and when we get to know about it.

Here’s a quick recap of the highlights of the Transformer Prime:
