Intel has a lot banking on the Ultrabook, at the moment. The last big thing in this segment for Intel was netbooks and it’s something they pulled off rather well. As of now, it looks like Asus will be the first to sell Ultrabooks in the market. The UX21 will hit shops in the US on the 21st of October, this year. PCMag says that promotions are on in full swing. The UX21 is based on Intel’s Sandy Bridge line of processors and uses a solid state drive to minimize power consumption. Asus first unveiled the UX21 at Computex in May, this year. The model on display there was a Core i5 model, but expect Asus to launch Core i7 models, soon. Models will include mini-HDMI and USB 3.0 support, too. The design of the Asus UX21 is sleak – it measures just 3mm at the tip of the bezel.
First of the many Ultrabooks to be launched
Intel is portraying Ultrabooks to ultrathin notebooks with quick boot times and long battery life. These are proving to be a competition to MacBook Air line notebooks from Apple. The Asus UX21 is expected to sell under the $999 (approximately Rs. 45,000) price tag. There is no news of when the UX21 will hit Indian markets, though.
