Despite the Motorola X phone being in the news since sometime last year, we have very little details about the upcoming smartphone. Rumours so far have been vague and rather than detailing the specs of the X phone, they focus on the features of the phone, such as a touch sensor on the back panel and the ruggedness of the device.
For a change, a leaked AnTuTu benchmark result on Japanese site RBMen.com has now given us some idea of the X phone’s hardware. Benchmark results show a smartphone with a model number XT1055 and based on the specs, it could very well be the much-hyped X phone. This is the second X phone benchmark result to pop up in less than a week.
Can the X Phone revive Motorola's magic?
The chipset used in the XT1055 is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 SoC. The Snapdragon 600 includes a 1.7GHz quad-core CPU with four Krait cores. This is the same chipset that is used in the HTC One, some variants of the Galaxy S4 and the LG Optimus G Pro’s international version. During the benchmark tests, the XT1055 was running Android 4.2.2 Jellybean, but it could very well launch with either Android 4.3 or 5.0, depending on when it is announced. The total AnTuTu score of 18252 is also in line with similarly-specced quad-core processors.
The Motorola X phone is expected to be unveiled at Google I/O later this month and could launch in late June or July. Majority of the X phone’s hype is due to the fact it will be the first device manufactured after Motorola’s acquisition by Google. Google’s Executive Chairman Eric Schmidt said the resulting phones from the Motorola-Google combination will be “phones-plus” or rather smartphones that can do more than its competition. The focus of the company with the X phone is to provide a smartphone with a long-lasting battery and a tough exterior to withstand everyday drops and impact.
