Samsung put an extra hardware key on the Galaxy S8 and the S8+ which launches the company’s virtual assistant, Bixby. While there were speculations that this button could have the potential to be remapped, a report now confirms that it won’t be possible any more.
The company has blocked users from using the Bixby hardware button to trigger other apps and operations as confirmed by a representative on Twitter.

According to XDA Developers, a Galaxy S8 firmware update blocks the ability to remap the button. Prior to the update, the button could be remapped to launch Google Assistant.
The Samsung representative said, “It was exploiting a system-level behavior. That behavior has been changed. Can’t say it will never happen, but we won’t officially support.”
This means that Samsung will not allow you to change the functionality of the button, but maybe with a bit of tinkering, one could make the button perform different actions.
The company is already in a bit of trouble with its new AI assistant as recently we heard that it won’t be ready when the Galaxy S8 and S8+ hit the markets as the English version is having certain performance issues. Let’s hope that the company doesn’t disappoint customers when the phones finally launch.
