Canon has announced three new cameras for 2017. These include two DSLRs and one mirrorless camera.

These cameras are the Rebel T7i – the successor to the Rebel T6i aka EOS 750D, the EOS 77D and the mirrorless M6.

Canon Rebel T7i

The Rebel series cameras form Canon’s entry-level lineup. The star in this new camera is the integration of 45 cross-type autofocus (AF) points and Canon’s latest Dual Pixel AF system.

Cross-type focus points use a combination of phase-detection and contrast detection to enable fast focus. Such sensors are usually only found on higher-end cameras in sufficient numbers to matter. 45 cross-type points on an entry-level camera is very nice indeed. The T6i only had 19 such points.

The Rebel T7i shoots 24.2 MP images at up to 6 frames per second. It features Canon’s fastest Digic 7 image processor, supports Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and NFC, shoots full HD video and can hit ISO 25,600. It also comes with a vari-angle LCD screen.

The Canon Rebel T7i body will sell for $749 in the US (around Rs 50,100).

Canon EOS 77D

The EOS 77D offers many of the same features as the T7i and the specifications are the same. The advantage it has over the T7i is greater customisability and the ability to shoot through flickering light. A top-mounted LCD screen and rear Quick Control dial help with this.

The Canon EOS 77D body will sell for $899 in the US (around Rs 60,100).

This is a mirrorless camera that uses the same 24MP sensor as the above cameras. At 7 fps, its burst mode is slightly faster. It’s LCD unit is fixed, however, and it doesn’t come with an electronic viewfinder (EVF). This has to be purchased separately.

The Canon EOS M6 body will sell for $779 in the US (around Rs 52,100).

As TheVerge points out, none of these cameras shoot in 4K yet, which is disappointing.
