Canon India Pvt Ltd., today announced the addition of three digital cameras – the PowerShot G15, PowerShot S110, and PowerShot SX50 HS – which the company claims provides advanced features, greater focusing speed and multiple-shot speed in sophisticated, compact camera bodies.

As per an official statement, the three models include advancements in auto focus (AF) technology for high-speed responsive AF systems that capture the moment as it happens, with significantly reduced lag time. Both the PowerShot G15 and PowerShot S110 models include a 12.1-megapixel High-Sensitivity CMOS image sensor. The PowerShot S110 includes Wi-Fi connectivity and on-the-spot sharing, while the PowerShot SX50 HS is claimed to be the world’s first 50x optical zoom in a digital camera ever.

Speaking on the occasion of the launch, Dr. Alok Bharadwaj, Senior Vice President, Canon India, said, “The introduction of the G15, S110 and SX50 HS sets a new benchmark for photography. Latest models are portable genius, these easy-to-use models offer excellent shooting versatility. With the introduction of the advanced features in these three new PowerShot models, our customers will have the right tools to put their creativity into action and produce images that they will share for a lifetime. We are certain that the new models once again will strike the chord with consumers and will be a huge hit.”

PowerShot G15
Canon has endowed the PowerShot G15, the successor to the PowerShot G12, with, what it claims to be the fastest Auto-Focus (AF) performance in its class. The PowerShot G15 can focus on a subject in just 0.17 seconds, allowing it to capture the moment in 12.1-megapixel clarity.

With the Dual Axis Electronic Leveling system, Canon adds that photographers can bring up a graphical indicator to help keep the shot level to prevent skewed photos. “Perfect for landscape photos, this feature is also useful where the horizon is not visible due to low light or other reasons,” adds Canon.

The PowerShot G15 comes with a slimmer and more compact body. A new two-level dial system uses larger and more visible icons to help photographers quickly select the required mode, with the main controls all concentrated on the right side of the camera to facilitate single-handed operation.

PowerShot S110

Canon PowerShot S110

The PowerShot S110 has several features such as the DIGIC 5 image processor, an HS SYSTEM, and an f/2.0 aperture to conquer even the most challenging lighting conditions at 12.1 megapixels to bring out the best in night or low-light photography.

The PowerShot S110’s new Handheld Night Scene mode, as per Canon, allows users to shoot night shots without the aid of a tripod, suppressing camera-shake and excessive image noise. It takes two shots, one with flash and one without, and automatically composites the two shots together. The brighter details of the shot with flash properly expose the subject against the background landscape, while the one without flash maintains the ambience of the night.

The PowerShot S110 is given additional connectivity options with the inclusion of Wi-Fi capabilities. Using Wi-Fi, and the Canon CameraWindow app, the PowerShot S110 is able to directly connect to iOS and Android devices. Users can also make use of the add location function to tag GPS data on the images. Wireless printing is also available with any compatible printer.

In the PowerShot S110 simple and user-friendly, Canon has introduced a large 3.0-inch capacitive touchscreen LCD monitor. With this capacitive touchscreen and control ring, photographers are able to set their shooting parameters and select modes. Tapping the right edge of the screen brings up a control interface that resembles a dial. By dragging their finger up and down, users can select and set parameters such as shutter speed, aperture value and ISO speed. Pinching action allow users to zoom in and out of the image display effortlessly.

PowerShot S110 is available in three colours – white, black and silver.

PowerShot SX50 HS

Canon PowerShot SX50 HS

Physical mobility is a frequent obstacle that hampers a good shot – while a photographer can see and envision it, they cannot get close enough to a subject safely to capture the shot well. The PowerShot SX50 HS expands its functionality with al 50x (24-1200mm) Optical Zoom lens and it can go up to 2400mm with a 100x ZoomPlus telephoto feature.

At high zoom, even the slightest movement will cause blurry images. To overcome this issue, the PowerShot SX50 HS is equipped with a Zoom Framing Assist Lock button. As mentioned in the statement by Canon, pressing the button will engage the function and drastically reduce camera shake for sharper telephoto images, even when operating the PowerShot SX50 HS without a tripod.

Zoom Framing Assist also has a seek function to help users find their subjects quickly even when zoomed in. By pressing the Zoom Framing Assist Seek button, the PowerShot SX50 HS will quickly zoom out to allow the photographer to locate the subject and adjust the framing with an assist frame that indicates the borders of the previous zoom position. Upon releasing the seek button, the lens will revert to its previous zoom position.
