I know iOS apps are all the rage right now, but I never expected to see something like this on the App Store. The Catholic Church has sanctioned a new iPhone app called Confession: A Roman Catholic App that will help people plan out their confessions before they enter the booth to be absolved of their sins. The app is not intended as a replacement for priests, but rather one that will make confessions more accessible.

Thine data and privacy shalt be password protected

The features of the app include:

  • Custom examination of Conscience based upon age, sex and vocation (single, married, priest or religious)
  • Multiple user support with password protected accounts
  • Ability to add sins not listed in standard examination of conscience
  • Confession walkthrough including time of last confession in days, weeks, months and years
  • Choose from 7 different acts of contrition
  • Custom interface for iPad
  • Full Retina Display Support

Thou shalt be able to confess to your sins

The app is compatible with iPhones, iPod Touches and iPads running iOS 3.1.3 or later, and is available on the App Store for $1.99. Just be careful the priest doesn’t think you’re playing around with your device while making a confession!
