Celkon has launched a new feature phone – the C779. While not exactly a smartphone, there are a couple of things about the handset that might pique your interest – namely, the fact that it can run on AAA batteries in case of emergencies.
The aforementioned emergencies will be very hard to come by, however, since the phone is equipped with a 1,800 mAh battery. This is a pretty large battery for a feature phone, even bigger than the one powering the Samsung Galaxy Nexus.
The Celkon C779 can be recharged with triple-A batteries
Other than that, the phone has a 2.4-inch screen with a keypad below it. It has dual SIM capabilities, so you can run it with two SIM cards. On the back, the phone is equipped with a 1.3 megapixel camera. It also has multimedia capabilities, including audio and video players. Other features include Bluetooth, FM Radio and a torch. The handset has a microSD card slot with memory expandable up to 16GB.
The large battery along with the ability to recharge it with AAA batteries in case of emergencies is what makes the handset special, but with the feature phone market shrinking every day, it will be hard for Celkon to find buyers for the device. Back in April, a report by IDC for Q1 of 2013 revealed that the number of shipments for smartphones had surpassed the number of shipments for feature phones. The usual notion about using phones to only make/receive calls or send messages is fading away and people have started expecting more.
