The Windows Phone 7 OS is in line for an update soon, which finally enables copy-paste and will lead to a speedier OS and better Marketplace Search. Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer had announced the update in his keynote speech at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), but had refrained from mentioning a timeframe for its release. However the URL for the page detailing the update ended with “January-update.aspx”, which led us to believe it could be out this month. The URL has since been changed to “update-info.aspx”, though.
The update enables the much-requested copy and paste feature, which seems easy to use because all the user has to do is just tap a word, slide their finger to highlight any additional text, then tap the Copy icon. To insert this text in a message or app, tapping the spot where it should go, then tapping the Paste icon should get the job done.
The update also promises faster loading of Games and Apps and a more streamlined Marketplace Search function (with separate searches for Apps/Games and for Music) which will make it easier for users to find what they’re looking for on the Marketplace.
Windows Phones 7 are designed to automatically tell you via a pop-up message if an update is available (unless you’ve turned this option off). So keep your eyes peeled.
