ASUS just announced a flurry of products at its just concluded CES 2014 keynote address. ASUS chairman Jonney Shih took over the stage for all the major announcements. As expected, ASUS had some phone announcements and it launched not one but three phones. ASUS Zenfones is the new line up of ASUS phones and they come in 4-inch, 5-inch and 6-inch screen sizes.

The ASUS Zenfones are named Zenfone 4, Zenfone 5 and Zenfone 6, where the number corresponds to the screen size. All the phones have an IPS display and each of them comes in five different colours. The Zenfone 4 has a 5MP camera, the Zenfone 5 sports and 8MP camera and the flagship Zenfone 6 houses a 13MP shooter with an aperture of f/2.0. Each of these phones come with ASUS’s proprietary PixelMaster technology. More details are awaited on the same.

Jonney Shih spoke about the ability of the phone cameras of the Zenfone 5 and Zenfone 6 to increase the brightness of the lowly lit scene by as much as 400 per cent to get better photographs. Apart from that the cameras come with a feature called Clear zoom where in the phone’s camera automatically drops the megapixel count if it senses a macro image so as to retain more details. The Time Rewind feature allows you to shoot a burst of images and select the image you want, a feature that is pretty much standard on most high end phones.

On the software side of things, Shih announced the ZenUI which will be an Android skin on top of the Zenfones. ASUS have also added a ‘genie’ feature on the Zenfones which is quite similar to Google Now, giving you contextual updates based on your usage habits and patterns.

Towards the end of the presentation, Shih showed some benchmark graphs comparing the Intel Atom processors – on which the Zenfones are running – to the quad core Cortex A7 class ARM CPUs. According to Shih, the benchmarks put the Intel based phones on a much higher pedestal. We can only confirm that after testing the phones ourselves.

The price point for the phones are as follows:
Zenfone 4 – starting from USD 99 (approx Rs 6170 approx)
Zenfone 5 – starting from USD 149 (approx Rs 9290 approx)
Zenfone 6 – starting from USD 199 (approx Rs 12399 approx)
There was no mention of any contract, so this seems to be the official pricing.

Apart from the Zenfones, ASUS also announced a Padfone Mini and a Padfone X, the latter being introduced only for the US market as of now.
