The Consumer Electronic Show kickstarts the year for the tech industry and this year's event also promises a great deal for techies and gadget lovers. Launches and innovations seen at CES set the trend for what will be seen all through the year. With the CES 2014 less than a week away, we are looking forward to seeing what companies have planned for 2014. A whole lot of smartphones are also expected from major manufacturers. Here is what the each brand has planned for CES 2014.
Asus has already started teasing its announcements for CES 2014. Its latest teaser hints at new smartphones, most probably three. The teaser video has been titled “What’s Your Number,” and the background shows Taipei, Taiwan with balls pouring down from the sky. Each ball has a number printed on it – four, five or six. It is widely speculated that the company is launching three smartphones and the numbers indicate the screen sizes. This is all we know so far, so we’ll have to wait until the devices are officially unveiled at the CES next week. Apart from these devices, the company will also announce its new dual-booting tablet that can run both Android and Windows OSes.
What is Asus planning this time?
Sony wowed us with the Xperia Z at the CES last year, and this time around it is likely to flaunt its new flagship device codenamed Sirius. The Sirius is expected to pack in a 5.2-inch display and a Snapdragon 800 SoC. The company is also expected to launch another device codenamed Canopus later in May, but we aren’t sure if the company plans to announce that device at CES 2014 too. The Canopus sports a 5-inch display and will come powered by a Snapdragon 800 or 805 SoC.
In addition, we might see Sony’s Xperia Z1 f or the toned-down version of the Xperia Z1. With comparisons being drawn to the iPhone 5S, Sony might have an ace up its sleeve. It features the same Snapdragon 800 CPU and 20.7MP camera that is seen in the Xperia Z1 The company has reportedly employed a better IPS display that offers improved contrast and colour reprodcution. Some other specs include 4.3-inch 720p display, 2,300mAh battery and 16GB onboard storage.
Xperia Z1 f may see an international launch at CES
ZTE will refresh its Grand S smartphone this year and the second-gen phone is expected to appear at CES 2014. Following the large display trend, the Grand S 2 sports a 5.5-inch 1920 x 1080 display. However, it has maintained a sleek profile with 154 x 77 x 7.9 mm dimensions. The device also packs in a Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 chipset coupled with 2GB of RAM.
Oppo's first smartphone to support 4G and 2k display
Oppo, who has been busy teasing us with the specs of its upcoming Find 7 smartphone, may finally launch the device at the CES 2014. The Find 7 sports a 5.5-inch display with 2K resolution, which means the pixel density goes all the way up to 538ppi. This would make it the very first international phone with such a display. The company claims to fit a 5.5-inch display into a 5-inch device body. The device is also said to sport a slim bezel and will be powered by the Snapdragon 804 chipset. It is also rumoured to include 3GB of RAM.
We'll be updating this list as and when we find out about any new phones that are expected to be announced at CES. We've still not got a clear picture about what the likes of Samsung, HTC, LG and Nokia have in store for the event. So stay tuned to tech2 in the run up to CES 2014 for all the latest news from the event.
