Crystal Dynamics had showcased a new trailer for the Tomb Raider reboot. The trailer gives a lot of information about the plot, along with some gameplay. It looks like along with the standard platforming elements that are to be expected from a Tomb Raider game, it will also be featuring heavy use of stealth as a means of surviving against what seems to be bandits.

Here is a summary of the story: “Shipwrecked on an island off the coast of Japan, Lara Croft began armed with nothing more than her wits and will to live. Forced to forage for food and defend herself from hostile natives, Lara is forever changed when her friends are captured and she realizes she is the only one who can save them. Pushed to the limits of human fortitude, Lara knows that if she doesn't survive, none of them will.”

Back in November, a ton of information about Tomb Raider had been revealed through a Q&A between the developers and fans over Twitter. The game is set to be around 12 to 15 hours long, depending on your play style. Along with this, Crystal Dynamics has also promised that the story will have lots of twists and turns. The company has also said that you will not be required to have any knowledge of the previous games in the series, since it is a reboot and tells Lara Croft's origin story. It seems that Tomb Raider won't be immune to modernisation as Crystal Dynamics has revealed that the game will feature a regenerating health system. This is odd because the company laid emphasis on the game's survival aspects, but survival isn't an issue when your health can regenerate after hiding in cover for some time.

A curious design decision is that Lara won't have the ability to swim in this game. “Lara can swim, but just not in this game,” says the tweet. The game will also be getting a sequel if the reboot is successful. Crystal Dynamics has said that more information on the game will be revealed in December, including whether the game will be focussing on stealth or all out action gameplay. The company also plans to show some more platforming elements in the game.

Before this, the company had been quiet about the game since the demo that was unveiled earlier this year during PAX Prime. In the video, the developer shows off many of the gameplay mechanics, including the one mechanic that Tomb Raider is more or less known for – the platforming. In the first two minutes of the game, players will have to scale a crashed plane that’s hanging on rocks in the middle of a waterfall and try to tightrope walk on a log without falling off to certain doom. The developer has stressed that this isn’t exactly the battle-hardened Lara Croft we’ve become used to in previous games like Tomb Raider: Legends and Tomb Raider: Underworld. Instead, this is an origin story for Lara and has been likened by the developer to movies like Batman: Begins.
