Darksiders was this year’s sleeper hit and it was definitely a blast. As War, one of the four horsemen of the Apocalypse framed for the destruction of man, players scoured post-apocalyptic Earth in search of answers. The game was an amalgamation of a ton of games like Zelda and the God of War series but it always managed to retain its violent identity throughout.
And since the game sold pretty well, developer Vigil games started working on a sequel as soon as they were done with the first. At the recent IGDA conference in San Francisco, THQ EVP of Core Games Danny Bilson dropped a major bomb regarding the fact that players won’t be playing as War in the sequel. That’s because the sequel takes place simultaneously during the Apocalypse when War was owning faces. Besides a new lead, expect new mechanics and a ton of extra features that will “differentiate it a lot from the first game.”
And that’s about all we have as of now but we’ll keep you posted as and when we come across anything else. Darksiders 2 releases for the Xbox360 and the PS3 sometime in 2012.
