In recent times, the market has been flooded with ‘military shooters’ which have regenerating health and require you to take cover behind a strategically placed wall. Devolver Digital thinks it’s about time for a change with its new Warfighter-fighter program.

According to a blog post, the company is giving away 100 Xbox Live Arcade codes for Serious Sam: BFE to those who speak out against the over-abundance of military shooters. “Not every game will live up to expectations,” said Devolver Digital. “One such game has been Medal of Honor: Warfighter – yet another military shooter where cover is king and most folks spend their time peeking out form behind a wall or a strategically placed concrete barrier.”

According to Devolver Digital, “Over the next week we will be offering 100 free Xbox LIVE Arcade downloads for Serious Sam 3: BFE to some of those affected so they can get up from behind that wall and get back to the unleashing heavy ordinance upon a horde of brutal aliens just like our forefathers.”

Eye for an eye

Down with military shooters

The company had released Serious Sam 3: BFE for Xbox Live Arcade earlier this month. The port was made by the same developer – Croteam – and has the recently announced Children of the Nile expansion pack launch alongside it. The port also features all of the game modes from the original, such as co-operative campaign and multiplayer. Both the game and the expansion pack will be priced at 1200 Microsoft Points which roughly converts to Rs 800.

Serious Sam 3: Jewel of the Nile follows the protagonist, whose name if you haven’t already guessed is Sam, to the Temple of Isis on an island called Philae where a monstrous temple guardian is said to lie in wait. The events of the expansion pack are set during the events of Serious Sam 3: BFE. Sam and his team will have to battle through three new campaign missions against hordes of enemies, who are all under the control of Mental.

Back in July, it was revealed that the developers of the game, Croteam, are working on getting Serious Sam 3: BFE working on Linux. This came shortly after Valve’s announcement of porting Steam and Left 4 Dead 2 to Linux. “We're in the process of integrating Steamworks and achievements and the whole shebang, but we can't get the little fucker of a penguin to stand still,”

said publisher Devolver Digital's chief financial officer Fork Parker in the announcement.

This is good news for all those people who have wanted to get rid of the Windows partition on their hard drive but couldn't because of the lack of games on Linux. The number of games available on Linux is about to swell considerably due to Valve working on getting Steam on the Ubuntu distribution of Linux – an operating system previously mostly used by hackers and developers.

Along with the Xbox 360 version, the PC version of Serious Sam 3: Jewel of the Nile is available on Steam, Get Games, and other digital retailers for $9.99 (Rs 515 approximately).
