Bethesda has announced that the latest DLC for Skyrim, titled Dragonborn, will be released for the PC and PlayStation 3 early next year. This is surprising, considering the previous DLCs still haven't made their way to the PS3 yet. According to Eurogamer, when asked why Dragonborn would be coming out on the PS3 before the other DLCs, Bethesda said, “We think Dragonborn is our best add-on for Skyrim yet, and we didn't want fans to wait long, so that's our current focus. Each platform takes a lot of time and attention.”
According to the Bethesda blog, the company isn't yet done with Skyrim news, and will be sharing more news about the open-world role playing game next year.
Skyrim players on the PS3 will finally get a DLC
When asked if the other DLCs are making their way to the PlayStation 3, Bethesda said that the company isn't done making content for Skyrim yet. “As noted in our blog post, we're not done with content for Skyrim,” said Bethesda. “When we're ready to share more details, we'll update everyone.”
A beta tester recently leaked some information about Dragonborn, including the new abilities and weapons the DLC brings. The new abilities and weapons include new shouts like Cyclone, which creates a tornado, and Battle Fury, which gives you a buff for fighting. Another shout – Dragon Aspect – allows you to summon dragon armour and increases the overall effectiveness of your shouts and melee attacks, and summons an Ancient Dragonborn who fights alongside you.
New weapons and armour include the Deathbrand armour, the Bonemould armour, chitin armour, Stralhrim armour, heavy Carved Nordic armour, light Morag Tong armour, and for the wizards, new Telvanni and Miraak robes. There is also a new ring that allows resurrected creatures to explode into frost and fire damage.
Back in November, Bethesda released new screenshots that gave us a taste of what we could expect in the upcoming DLC. Bethesda also revealed some information on the DLC:
- Explore Beyond Skyrim: Leave the province of Skyrim and travel to the coastal island of Solstheim (an island off the coast of Vvardenfell – the mainland of the Morrowind province). Encounter the Dark Elven settlers of Raven Rock and the native Skaal, as you unravel the mystery of a Dragonborn's return.
- Become the Ultimate Dragonborn: Harness the power of the Voice as you face off against the first Dragonborn. Wield new shouts and spells including Dragon Aspect that allows you to summon the inner power of a dragon to deliver colossal blows and strengthen other shouts.
- New Powers: Discover dark powers as you journey into a new Daedric realm. Collect books of forbidden knowledge and choose new paths for your skills and abilities.
- New dungeons, creatures, weapons and more: Suit up in Bonemold and Chitin armours and wield Stalhrim weapons as you navigate through a myriad of dungeons. Battle formidable foes like Ash Spawn, Rieklings and more.
Morrowind was originally the setting for the third game of the series – The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, and is the home of the dark elves, aka, Dunmer. Quest markers for areas in Morrowind such as Solstheim, Telvanni Castle, Karstaag, Raven Rock and Miraak Temple have been discovered in Skyrim’s files.
