It looks like Electronic Arts is going to have some fun with the IP it owns. We all know that Popcap's next game – Plants vs Zombies – is going to be released some time this summer, but EA is looking to mash the game up with some of its well known franchises. On its social media accounts, EA has posted two pictures that show everyone's favourite plants, but in other games.
First up is a mash-up of Plants vs Zombies with the space opera RPG Mass Effect. The picture names the game as Grass Effect, and instead of Shepard and co., we see all the different plants that make up your arsenal in Plants vs Zombies. With it, EA has posted a message that reads, “Plants vs. … Reapers? #EAE3”.
The space opera just got weirder
The other one puts one of the zombies from Plants vs Zombies in survival-horror game Dead Space and wearing protagonist Isaac Clarke's armour and mask. The message for the game, titled Dead Face, reads, “Zombies on Tau Volantis! #EAE3”. The #EAE3 hashtag points to the possibility of EA revealing more about this rather weird advertising campaign at the upcoming E3 event.
Popcap had earlier announced that the game, titled Plants vs Zombies 2: It's About Time, will be coming out in July. As of now, the company hasn't announced which platforms the game will be available for, but it's a safe bet to assume that it will at least come out on the PC and Mac. Like the first game, it might even come out on mobile devices.
Zombies? On my Tau Volantis?
Plants vs Zombies 2: It's About Time, was originally announced back in August 2012 with a rather hilarious press release with quotes from a zombie and a plant.
“Spring is crullest curlie ungood time, and plantz grow dull roots,” noted an unidentified spokesperson, who we guess is a zombie. “So, we are meating you for brainz at yore house. No worry to skedule schedlue plan… we're freee anytime. We'll find you.”
“There was a time we relished a bracing, hearty blend of zombies, in the morning,” said Sonny F. Lower, a representative of the Flora Forever Foundation. “But first, a brisk shower and some strategic pruning are required. Tomorrow is near!”
Popcap has made a name for itself not only because of its simple but fun games, but also because of its ingenious advertising campaigns. Back when the clock was ticking down to the release of the original Plants vs Zombies game, Popcap had released a music video that had a plant singing about zombies on your lawn. Along with this, the company had also made some live action videos about a zombie trying to work at Popcap's offices.
