Facebook photos has gotten a few upgrades. The most notable of these include the ability to share high resolution pictures, the ability to tag in bulk and a more streamlined method of viewing the pictures. The announcement said that the new Facebook pictures will roll out over next month with a core test group already having access to it.
The new photos will allow people to upload pictures in 2048 pixel resolution and for their friends to download those pictures. The bulk tagging ability will recognize the same person in multiple pictures, but won't link it to their profile. It uses a very minimalistic facial recognition technology. “This isn't face recognition,” Sam Odio, Facebook Photos Project Manager insisted. “Picasa and iPhoto–they'll detect a face and say, 'This is Sam,' and they'll suggest that it's Sam. We're not doing that. We're not linking any faces to profiles automatically. Right now, we want to stay away from that because it's a very touchy subject.”
