A recent study by Pew Research Center's Project for Excellence in Journalism has found out that the popular social networking medium, Facebook was actually influencing the content what people viewed, especially news. The report basically looks at the flow of traffic to the web's biggest 25 news destinations, and it was in this test that it was revealed that among the 25 websites, Facebook was responsible for almost 3% of traffic driven to 21 of those websites. For those wondering the basis of such a statistic; the answer lies in the 'like' feature that Facebook has got integrated on most popular news websites. This number, however is very insignificant as compared to that achieved by the search engine giant, Google. Google, at the last count sends in 30% of the traffic to the popular news websites.
Facebook, however bags the mention for a special reason. Google encourages the users to search for their own news whereas those on Facebook are directed to specific news pieces, which in a way is reading what Facebook asks you to.
