After Twitter took popularity, Facebook launched the status bar. Now that FourSquare is becoming application of choice, Facebook plans to add location features to the website this month.
The addition of this feature means greater competition for FourSquare, the basic function of which is to allow users to 'check into' places like restaurants, bars, and clubs. With the greater database that Facebook has, FourSquare's positioning is potentially threatened.
The first restaurant to use Facebook's new feature will be McDonald's.
