Ubisoft has announced some new changes on the way for its last year’s FPS—Far Cry 3. The changes, going by a forum post by the Ubisoft community manager, solve many of the complaints that had been leveled against the game by fans and critics alike.
The biggest change in the single player component of the game is the ability to reset enemy outposts. A major part of the game is to capture outposts by killing all the pirates or privateers occupying it. A lot of the game’s challenge is lost when you take an outpost, as doing so stops any enemies from spawning in that zone.
After conquering all the outposts and completing the game, the player can reset the outposts by selecting “Reset Outposts” in the gameplay options menu. Doing this will reset and make all Outposts hostile again. All incomplete side missions and quests will become hidden. In order to finish the incomplete side missions, you will have to retake the outposts again.
The second major change is the addition of a new difficulty level—Master. This is where players will find themselves challenged by tougher privates and privateers, and even more dangerous and aggressive wildlife.
Reset the outposts so that you can make more things go boom
On the multiplayer side of things, the developers are expanding on the Feedback system for user-created maps. There are also going to be new “feedback tags”. The devs are also adding the ability for map makers to 'beta test' the maps by only releasing it to a handful of players through the Beta Test Playlist in matchmaking. At the end of a round, players give feedback that the mapmaker can use to improve the map.
There will also be some minor quality of life changes, such as having the ability to find other maps by the same map creator, removing the idle kick time in custom matches. The devs have expanded upon the Skip Map voting system by making it more visible and extending the time for the vote.
The previous major patch for Far Cry 3 made a number of changes to the HUD (heads-up display) of the game. The biggest gripe gamers had with the game was its intrusive heads-up display (HUD). HUD elements like mission objectives were ever present and blocked the view, while other elements such as tutorial messages kept popping up. After the patch, players now have the ability to only keep the HUD elements that they deem useful.
