One of the games that fans have all but given up on is Final Fantasy Versus XIII. The game was originally meant to be released alongside the poorly-received Final Fantasy XIII. According to GamingBolt, the game is being listed as Final Fantasy XV on the website of Japanese fashion brand Roen.

Roen had done the costume work for Final Fantasy Versus XIII, and checking out the company's biography reveals that the game is listed as Final Fantasy 15. This gives new life to the game that everyone thought Square Enix had abandoned.

The game is not related to Final Fantasy XIII in any way but for the name. It just shares some elements of the mythos but takes place in a different world. Versus XIII is part of a “ten year project” called Fabula Nova Crystallis Final Fantasy, which translated from Latin means, The New Tale of the Crystal. The game is being developed by the same team that made the popular Kingdom Hearts series.

The game's story centres around Noctis Lucis Caelum, who is the prince of an isolated kingdom and protector of the last crystal. The world's crystals are no longer being used and people are preferring magic-technology hybrids. With his companions, Noctis defends his homeland from barbarians who seek the crystal's gift-giving power of potentially infinite magic.

He also meets Stella Nox Fleuret, a young woman from the rival country of Tenebrae and his enemy. Their conflict is overshadowed by legends of Etro, who is the goddess of death and is primarily worshipped in Tenebrae. Her relationship with huans allows her to give magical powers like that of the crystal.

Final Fantasy Versus XIII is planned to be exclusive to the PlayStation 3 and will be forgoing the traditional turn-based battle system in favour of a more action-oriented approach to combat. It is also said to have elements of third-person shooters.

Final Fantasy is a series of jRPGs (Japanese RPGs) developed by Square Enix. The first game in the series was named so because it was going to be the last game developed by the studio. Because of the popularity, there have been many sequels, though most of them have had nothing to do with the other games in the series other than having the same names.

One of the most popular games in the series, Final Fantasy VII is also said to be one of the main reasons of success for Sony's first console, the PlayStation. The game was such a success that it instantly pushed the console to be the dominating system of the generation among the likes of the Sega Saturn and the Nintendo 64.
