Back in October, Research in Motion had announced BBX, a hybrid operating system that can run on both smartphones as well as tablets. At the time of the announcement no date was mentioned as to when the first device running BBX would be unveiled. Towards the end of October it was rumoured that the BlackBerry Colt would be the first handset to run this yet to be seen operating software. This seems to have changed to an extent as a report by The Verge indicates that they have gotten a look at the first handset running BBX, codenamed, BlackBerry London.
First BlackBerry handset running BBX
The website is quick to point out that the image they have acquired is that of a dummy model. Sources have informed them that the BlackBerry London would be made available by June 2012 and it is supposedly thinner than the iPhone 4.
Here are some of the rumoured specifications of the BlackBerry London:
- BBX OS
- 3.7-inch touchscreen
- 1.5GHz TI OMAP dual-core CPU
- 1GB RAM
- 16GB internal memory
- 8 Megapixel rear camera
- 2 Megapixel front camera
No other details are available regarding this handset, but from the looks it reminds us of the recently announced Porsche designed Blackberry P’9981. The similarities lie in the metallic strips at the top and bottom. Apparently, the London is a bit boxy and can stand straight when placed on its side. In a related report from BGR, it seems that plans to unveil the BlackBerry Colt running BBX have been shelved in favor of this smartphone. Let us know your reactions regarding the first BlackBerry BBX handset in the comments below.
