Research in Motion is expected to debut two BlackBerry 10 handsets when it launches its new BlackBerry 10 operating system on January 30, 2013. The latest information about the upcoming BlackBerry handsets is about a QWERTY N-Series device that is goes by the moniker X10. This handset is expected to be announced alongside the BlackBerry Z10, a touchscreen handset that runs on the upcoming OS from Research in Motion.
While there have been countless leaks in the past with respect to the BlackBerry L-Series handset that will be known as the Z10, there have been no images of the QWERTY handset which be launched under the moniker X10.
The front of the handset
From the leaked images, we can see that this handset features a lot of design traits of the older Bold series of handsets and looks pretty much similar to the BlackBerry Bold 9900, except for the fact that it features straight rows and not the curved layout that had been found on older generations of BlackBerry devices. Another big feature noticed here is the lack of navigation and menu buttons that are present on current BlackBerry devices. Overall, design-wise, Research in Motion appears to be sticking to a design and form factor its loyalists are used to and love.
The rear of the upcoming BlackBerry 10 X10
A few days ago, an official image of a BlackBerry 10 device, named Z10 had made its appearance. In the leaked press shot, we can see what was previously known as the BlackBerry 10 L-Series handset now being marketed as ‘The New BlackBerry Z10.’ The picture shows the handset in both colours it is expected to be launched in – black and white.
From this official image, we can see the app switching pane and a contact profile page. This feature is nothing new and Research in Motion had revealed details on these features in the past.
A later report revealed some of the specifications of the BlackBerry Z10 and as it turns out, the specs are very similar to that of the developer alpha devices used by developers to make apps for BlackBerry 10.
The phone will run on a dual core 1.5GHz TI OMAP 4470 processor and will support a quad band radio featuring HSPA+/UMTS, quad band GSM/GPRS and quad band LTE bands 2, 4, 5, 13, 17. It will also have a 4.2-inch screen with a resolution of 1280 x 768 pixels, giving it a pixel density of 356 ppi. It will come with 2GB RAM and 16GB of internal storage with a hot swappable microSD card slot. It will also support all the standard Wi-Fi networks and GPS with A-GPS. The shooters on the device are an 8 megapixel camera with auto focus and a 2 megapixel front facing camera. The cameras will have 1080p video recording. All of this will be powered by an 1800 mAh battery.
It was previously reported that Research In Motion is set to showcase its upcoming operating system—BlackBerry 10—in all its glory. The company had started sending out invitations for the launch events of the operating system, which will be held on January 30, 2013. The launch events will be held in cities around the world, including New York, Toronto, London, Paris, Johannesburg and Dubai.
