Foursquare let out a massive update today. It's skipped version 2.3 and headed straight on for version 3.0. New changes include:
Personalized recommendations – There is now an 'explore' tab which allows you to see recommendations based on where you go, what your friends do and what the entire foursquare community likes. It's like a little bit of Hotpot in foursquare. Explore contains tabs like “food”, “nightlife”, “shops”, and you can even get specific like “pancakes”, “fireplaces” and “80s music”.

New leaderboard: The point systems now reflects things you're proud of. So for instance, if you're proud that you've earned the Gym Rat badge, or that of your friends, you've tried the most number of new places, your points will reflect it. So if you're competing with your friends over one specific aspect, like number of gym visits, your leaderboard will show you the score.
New leaderboards in version 3.0
More than just Mayor: When Foursquare started, it was pretty easy to become the mayor of a joint because you didn't have to compete with 7 million other users. However, it's now getting harder and harder to become the mayor and Foursquare has added six more types of loyalty rewards. This will allow businesses to extend Specials. They'll be able to present rewards to swarms, newbies, a group of friends checking in, or even everyone on foursquare as they so desire.

Foursquare 3.0 for Android, according to foursquare themselves, will be out later today. Blackberry users will receive an update shortly, too. However, it will not be version 3.0. Symbian and Windows Phone 7 will have to wait a little for version 3.0.
