Last year was all about hacking and everything from the PlayStation Network to Steam to internet forums got hacked. While most of these were relatively harmless, Valve’s Gabe Newell sent out a warning this weekend to Steam users saying they should keep an eye out for any weird activity regarding their bank accounts linked to Steam.
Is your Steam account well protected?
It seems the group that hacked Steam in November got a hold of certain users’ transactions from 2008 all the way to 2004. These include important details like “names, email addresses, encrypted billing addresses and encrypted credit card information”. Once again, there’s no immediate cause of alarm. All Newell’s saying is that you should keep an eye out on your account till all the information is retrieved or the culprits apprehended. Also please make sure you have Steam Guard installed on your Steam account if you haven’t already.
