Google has reportedly acquired Bitspin, the company behind the much-loved Android alarm clock application, Timely. While the details are not to clear and there are rumours about an acqui-hire deal rather than an outright purchase, most sources have stuck to the fact that Google has purchased Bitspin.
In an announcement, the Zurich-based company said, “We're thrilled to announce that Bitspin is joining Google, where we'll continue to do what we love: building great products that are delightful to use.” While this shows the Bitspin team is joining Google, we don’t know under what capacity yet. Terms of the deal have not been confirmed yet and Google hasn’t commented on it either.
In-app purchases now free
For those not in the know, Bitspin is the creator of the very popular and good looking alarm clock application for Android called Timely. The alarm’s design is typography-heavy and there are a neat bunch of shortcuts and settings that allow you to make optimal use of the alarm’s features. Snoozing, setting new alarms and viewing the time are all easy and the animations make everything look good.
In the blog post, the Bitspin team wrote that Timely “will continue to work as it always has”. Sources have also confirmed to The Verge that Google intends to keep the alarm and it’s features free indefinitely. It has also been noted that the previously premium clock faces have now been made free, post the acquisition.
You can head on to Google Play Store in order to download Timely Alarm Clock for your Android devices.
