Google's been pretty Doodle happy lately with the Mr. Men series and the royal wedding and today they're celebrating noted American dancer and choreographer Martha Graham. Graham's influence on dance has been compared to Picasso's influence on art and Stravinsky's influence on music. She was born in Pennsylvania on May 11th, 1894. Even though she was strongly discouraged from having a career in the performing arts, she went to become the first dancer to dance at the White House, the first dancer to travel abroad as a cultural ambassador, and the first dancer to receive the highest civilian award in the United States, the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Her dance company, the Martha Graham Dance Company is the oldest dance company in America.
Google dances into place
The Doodle for Graham is actually quite fascinating. Not that no thought has gone into the previous Doodles but the way this one is animated is pretty innovative. It starts out with one dancer, who fleshes out another and then another till there are five of them. In the process of the fleshing out each dancer, they spell out the word Google in a sepia tone.
