Arindam Chaudhuri, the face behind the IIPM, or the Indian Institute of Planning and Management recently shot back at Google, Caravan and Penguin after the trio in their own individual ways allegedly spread ‘defamatory’ content in their respective spaces about him.

In an interview with Siddhartha Deb, the contributing Editor at The Caravan in February, this year, Arindam Chaudhuri spoke extensively about himself and IIPM . Titled – “Sweet Smell of Success: How Arindam Chaudhuri Made a Fortune Off the Aspirations—and Insecurities—of India’s Middle Classes”, the fairly meaty piece was a detailed account of Chaudhuri’s persona in the space he lives in, and about the institute he commands. Although, Deb’s piece did earn him a lot of critical acclaim; it left Chaudhuri a fuming man. Now, a lawsuit against Deb through which Chaudhuri seeks huge damages awaits him at the Silchar Civil Court. Silchar, located in Assam is 300 kms away from Guwahati. Deb's article now a part of his upcoming novel published by Penguin Publishing, already has Chaudhuri geared up. Chaudhuri, has for the same filed a lawsuit against Penguin Publishing.

Google, too has come under Chaudhuri's axe. The search giant has been accused of allegedly defaming Chaudhuri, and the institution he commands by the way of search results, articles, among others that the users are led to when they decide to look him up on the internet. According to a spokesperson from Google, who rubbished Chaudhuri's allegations, the search results were ‘a mere reflection of the content that is available on the internet’, and that they shouldn’t be held responsible for the same.

A lawsuit to the tune of Rs. 50 crore has been levied against The Caravan magazine, Penguin Publishing and the search giant, Google.
