Google’s next device, the Nexus 5 smartphone, made a brief appearance on the Google Play Store in the US before the page was pulled down by Google. This isn’t the first time that Google has made a page live about its products before actually releasing them. Previously, Google’s note app Keep was already visible on Google Drive before the app was even launched. One wonders if Google just enjoys teasing users for kicks.
The page was spotted by Engadgetwhich noted that the 16GB model was priced at$349. Other specs of the smartphone include:1080p 4.95-inch display, 2.3GHz Snapdragon 800 CPU and LTE support. The specs confirm what is pretty much already known about the smartphone. The Nexus 5 camera is expected to be eight megapixel but with Optical Image stabilisation which ensures better quality pictures even when you’re moving the smartphone around.
Engadget also pointed out that the screenshot showed that the Hangouts app is now where the SMS icon usually is. Google recently updated the Hangouts app on mobile to add voice calls, etc and the change is expected to show in Android 4.4. KitKat.
The Play Store leaks weren’t the only images of the Nexus 5 that were leaked. Tech website Mobile Syruphas also managed to get its hands on pictures of the Nexus 5 with Canadian mobile service providerTelus’ branding. Once again the snapshots show the Hangout app in place of the SMS icon.
Google is expected to launch the Nexus 5 on 28 October. It is rumoured that Google could also launch a smartwatch called the Gem smartwatch at the event. For more details on that click here.
