On the 4th of July, 2011, the American Independence day, US President Barack Obama was assassinated, well at least on Fox News' Twitter page. The Twitter account was hacked by TH3 5CR1PT K1DD3S (read: The Script Kiddies) and the Fox News logo was changed to The Script Kiddies logo. According to a report by tech website CNET, the hack was apparently completed at about 11 pm PT with a tweet that read, “Just regained full access to our Twitter and email. Happy 4th.“
Hacked Fox News Twitter account claim Obama is dead!
The account thereafter had several tweets that say, “@BarackObama has just passed. The President is dead. A sad 4th of July, indeed. President Barack Obama is dead.” “President @BarackObama assassinated, 2 gunshot wounds would have proved too much. It's sad 4th for #america #obamadead RIP.'' There was another tweet which claimed US Vice President Joe Biden as the new President and that there was light at the end of the tunnel at such a time of chaos. The Fox News Politics Twitter account was online for about nine hours after the hack, but now has been shut down.
According to a report by The Hacker News, The Script Kiddies personal Twitter account has been taken town by the micro blogging site. The hackers confirmed this fact by tweeting “Twitter has suspended TheScriptKiddie please follow @ScriptKiddi3 for future releases. We have confirmed Fox News is aware of the attack.” The hackers claim that they have connections with online activist group Anonymous; however, this hack did not represent them in any way. They go on to say that they will not go into details about how they have acquired Fox news Twitter account details and that they do have several email accounts belonging to Fox News. They claim that as far as their security is concerned, they obviously can't go into details about it, but have faith that the members of the Script Kiddies will remain hidden.
