HMD Global has announced that a redesigned Nokia 105 is going to hit offline retail stores in India, starting from 19 July. The phone is priced at Rs 999, with a dual SIM variant priced at Rs 1,149. The squarish design has been done away with, the phone now has a curved and sculpted design featuring a polycarbonate casing. There is also a bigger 1.8 inch screen and a new tactile keymat with separated keys for improved usability.

Juho Sarvikas, Chief Product Officer, HMD Global said “We understand that people who are looking for great feature phones are motivated by different needs. But when it comes to phone features the needs are the same; long battery life, robust build quality, and high quality voice functionality. Add to that classic, timeless looks and you have what is simply a great phone – the Nokia 105.”

Arto Nummela, CEO, HMD Global said, “With more than 4 billion people remaining offline and unable to benefit from the social and economic development opportunities of the internet, simply getting connected by voice and text is still such an important step for many people around the world. More than 400 million feature phones were sold globally in 2016. We cannot underestimate the need and benefit of being connected and we are dedicated to delivering devices that can expand the horizon.”

Charging is through a micro USB port, and there is a headphone jack. The phone ships with Snake Xenzia. There are two games that users can try before they buy, Doodle Jump and Crossy Road. The phone is available in blue, white and black. The software platform on the device is the Nokia Series 30+.

The Nokia 105 has been designed for emerging markets. Despite the redesign, there has been a reduction in the price, making the device even more affordable. Over 200 million Nokia 105s have sold around the world so far. The battery life allows for a talk time of 15.7 hours, and a standby time of up to a month. Along the top edge of the phone is a torch, that can be turned on or off by two keypresses on the up button.
