The HTC Butterfly is quite an enigma. Even though it was the first full HD phone to come to India, the Butterfly hasn’t exactly set the market on fire. In fact, the imminent launch of the HTC One will make the Butterfly even less appealing. However, if you are already a Butterfly owner, then here’s some good news.
Looks like HTC is readying an Android 4.2.2 update for the Butterfly J in Japan. The leak was spotted by htcsoku.info and the latest version of Android will be accompanied by Sense 5.1, HTC’s brand new Android overlay. Naturally, BlinkFeed will be present as part of the Sense package, so Butterfly users should be getting some other additions as well. Naturally, this leak points out to an imminent roll-out of the update for Butterfly. There's no indication that camera-related features from the HTC One such as Zoe, for example, will be available for the HTC Butterfly as well.
Official update imminent
Interestingly, the only way one can confirm that this is indeed the latest version of Android is by looking at the notification toggles, which indicate 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. The usual way of confirming the OS version is blocked as the “About” page is under protection.
The system dump of the new build is available on XDA Developers and while it’s still probably not good enough to be used as a daily driver in India, it might come in handy for potential ROM cooks who are working on the Butterfly. As for those waiting for the HTC One, this new build also indicates that the latest Android version is also coming to the new flagship.
