A mid range Android from HTC has been doing the Internet rounds since last few weeks. The device first surfaced with the code name HTC Proto and at that time, there were a few specifications to go with it. But these specifications were hardly enough to tell much about this upcoming Android. Later on, the name of the handset had surfaced and several reports indicated that this mystery Android handset would be christened as the HTC Desire X. The handset has been captured once more in the wild and this time, a leaked photo has emerged displaying the specifications of the HTC Desire X once it goes official.
As per the leaked image from ePrice, the HTC Desire X will come loaded with Android 4.0.4 and will be powered by a 1GHz dual-core processor. The dimensions of the handset suggest that it will measure 118.5 x 62.3 x 9.3mm, making it a fairly slim handset. The Desire X will weigh a mere 120g, so it should not be too heavy on the pocket.
Beats branding at the back
From the handful of images that have surfaced, we can see that it will come loaded with Beats Audio technology as the branding is featured at the back of the handset, much like the case with the recent HTC handsets that have been launched.
Here is a quick look at the highlighted features of the Desire X
- Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich with HTC Sense 4.0 UI
- 4.0-inch Super LCD display
- 1GHz dual-core processor
- Bluetooth 4.0
- 3.5mm audio jack, USB
- 4GB internal storage + microSD card support, 768MB RAM
- 5MP rear camera with LED flash, F/2.0 aperture and HTC ImageChip
As for the other features on this smartphone, the HTC Desire X will come with 25GB of Dropbox storage and will be fitted with Beats Audio technology. If this happens, any speculation of HTC and Beats drifting apart will be negated.
Specifications of the HTC Desire X
HTC bought 50.1 percent of Beats Electronics in August 2011 to enhance its phones and keep up with the rising competition in the mobile market. It is speculated that HTC has made the move due to growing competition from Samsung. However, the company recently sold back 25 percent of the shares to the founders of Beats Electronics for $150 million. After this announcement, HTC’s shares fell by 4 percent.
However, HTC remains Beats' largest shareholder with a 25.1 percent stake, with Beats' founders holding the remainder 25.57 percent and the voting rights. HTC recently issued a statement that reads, “HTC remains strongly committed to Beats Audio and including their innovation in our devices. Any rumor of HTC no longer integrating Beats Audio into our devices is categorically false.”
The HTC Desire X is expected to be priced at approximately $360, which would translate to roughly just over Rs. 20,000. The handset may be officially unveiled at this year’s IFA 2012 event.
