The Samsung Galaxy Nexus is the first handset to feature Google’s latest software update Ice Cream Sandwich. The company can bask in the glory for being the only smartphone manufacturer to have this firmware on their handset at least for the moment. However, other manufacturers are also looking to implement this new OS on to their handsets and steal a bit of the shine that Samsung solely own right now. HTC is one of the manufacturers reviewing the functionality and features of Google’s Ice Cream Sandwich. However, they may have a bit more strenuous task compared to other manufacturers as their Sense user interface is well integrated into the core Android operating system.
HTC targets upgrade of many devices with ICS update
According to a report by Engadget, HTC have spoken about implementing Android Ice Cream Sandwich into their handsets after the new OS from Google was announced. HTC states, “We are excited about the latest update for Android, Ice Cream Sandwich, and are currently reviewing its features and functionality to determine our upgrade plans. Our goal for Android updates is to give every customer an improved user experience, which means balancing each phone's unique hardware, HTC Sense experience and the Android kernel. While our goal is to upgrade as many of our recent devices as possible, we are committed to maintaining every phone's performance and usability first. Please stay tuned for more updates on specific device upgrade plans.”
Though the company has not given any indication as to when Ice Cream Sandwich will first appear on their handsets, at least we know that plans are being set in place to incorporate them in their line of smartphones.
